If you have interest in serving at-risk children in Lakota this summer, we may have the volunteer opportunity you are looking for. The Summer Lunch Program is a partnership between Faith Alliance, Butler County Success, Lakota Child Nutrition, Mission Possible, and many other community volunteers to feed, mentor and provide activities for local children from low-income homes who would otherwise go without in the summer.
Church groups for years had provided all food and activities to these children. In 2016, Lakota Child Nutrition got sponsorship from a USDA grant to bring the Food Bus to 7 sites where the students lived and provided the lunch for us. Now our volunteers help out kids with lunch and clean up but just as important, provide mentorship and guidance, along with fun activities. This program will run through the 10 1/2 weeks of the summer, Monday through Friday. Volunteer opportunities are available at many of the 7 sites. If this opportunity calls to you, we invite you to attend our Summer Lunch Kick-off Meeting and Luncheon on Wednesday, March 29th, from 11:30am to1pm at Cornerstone UMC. PLEASE REGISTER TO ATTEND by emailing Sue Mahlock at Smahlock@thefaithalliance.org.
