Summer Lunch Comes to a Close

August 9th marked the last day of our Summer Lunch ministry at 7 local sites around Lakota. With the help of our friends from the Lakota Food Bus, we were able to serve more children than ever this year. 13,533 meals were served with love to on average 271 children per day. That is 24 more children per day compared to last year.

Not just food was served up! Well over 200 volunteers including those from 22 churches, 26 schools, 3 companies and 3 non-profits, showed up to help with lunch, read, mentor and do dozens of fun activities with these children and families through out the summer. After lunch, many churches took the kids on field trips for example, to the zoo, local fire and police stations, as well as provided adult lunches and groceries to take home. This was a record year for numbers of students and numbers of volunteers who have partnered together to make a difference in the lives of low-income, at-risk children and families.

It truly is unknown how large the impact of your personal service will be on these kids. The one thing you can believe is that all who participated did make an enormous impact through personal relationships and kindness shown to these youth. Many thanks to all the churches, Lakota Schools & Child Nutrition, Butler County Success, the Lunch of Love and Mission Possible for collectively making a difference in the lives of others with this awesome Summer Lunch Program!
