The Apostle Paul had this approach to diversity: “To the Jews, I became as a Jew” I Corinthians 9:20. Paul became what he needed to be in order to be in relationship with them. Out of love for his neighbor, he was willing to join them as a companion and friend. Paul did not feel this act compromised or diminished his own principles or faith, but was an act of love. It offered the possibility of relationship, dialog, and even service between his neighbor and himself.
Prayer: “Heavenly Father, l pray that our community, our nation, and indeed the world, might all live by Paul’s example, that we might open ourselves to your diverse human family and see ourselves in them. In Jesus name, Amen.”
